She watches the sky
a horrific shade of black
air heavy with mortal
Her tail glitters ever shade of blue
webbed claws sharp as razors
emerged from the sea
assembling herself onto an ice floe
gazing at the dying subjects,
sinking to the depths of the ocean.
The mermaid snapped out of her trance,
turning to see a youthful maiden with hair like that of the sun;
who drifted far from her kin.
With amusement, the mermaid watched
as the bright haired child struggled to stay afloat
her pleading eyes sinking below.

God forbid someone
treats your daughter the way you
treat her own mother.
— Day Sibley, Women and daughters
I showed you too much affection
like an over watered plant
and with it
— Day Sibley, Untitled Ninety-one
A blessing it would be if women could
love one another instead of competing
against each other.
— Day Sibley, A Woman’s Mirror
The greatest sin the world forbids a woman to do, is love herself.
See, she is the wife before she is an individual. The mother who
cares for herself last. Someone’s sister or aunt. She never belongs
to herself. God forbid she does.
— Day Sibley, A Woman’s Worth
I’m writing a poem
about you and you might
not like it to much
I just want to be
at peace with myself and get
I guess making hallelujahs
out of nothing won’t stop the sadness
I wish I could be this way every day
but like the moon
— Day Sibley
She’s not interested
in saving you
can’t save herself.
R.I.P. Robert Godwin 4/2017
My problem was
never with dying
more so with how
I’m going to.
break me down again
lie and tell me you love me
I wanna be loved.
If I told you,
you can find the beauty
in my fall
would you believe me?
— Day Sibley, Untitled Eighty-nine
Why do you mess everything up?!
The welts from your belt turned into authorial fist
I wanted you dead for a long time now. Perhaps I
I should have aborted you!
You thought I took something from you the moment
I grew into your womb. Maybe you should have, as I
don’t see the point in living if I want to be dead.
Leave then, I don’t care where you go!
I don’t know everything in the world, but if
I can survive the Hell you gave me, walking on
eggshells in my own home perhaps what the world will do is nothing.
I love you baby.
You’re the reason why I second guess those
words anytime it flies out of someone’s mouth.
I wanna love you in all the places
you try to hide from me, so I can
tell you not to be afraid anymore.
I want our love to be whole enough
to where questioning it, is out of the
I meant it the first time, I loved you
then and now. There’s nothing you
can do about it.
You got that glow
that will make anyone not like you
and that’s a compliment.
